Brief history: The Simon's Town Museum was established in 1977 by the Simon's Town Historical Society (Friends of the Simon's Town Museum) to collect and preserve the history of the Simon's Town community, past and present, with emphasis on its immense diversity of origins, cultures and religions and to highlight the significant role played by the Simon's Town community in maritime and global history and their connections to the VOC; Royal Navy and other nations around the world.
Specialisation:
* Cultural diversity and origins of the Simon's Town people
* Devastation of our community through the Group Areas Act
* Cur links to international history and the slave trade
Some of our Exhibitions:
The People of Simon's Town
The Anglo-Boer Prisoner-of-War Camp
Simon's Town's Participation in the World Wars
The Royal Navy in Simon's Town
The Just Nuisance Story
The Slave Cells
We need to remember the many South Africans who gave up their lives or became disabled during many conflicts in and for South Africa. This is not only for the last two World Wars, but our recent battles that have affected so many of our community. We owe them recognition for our today and tomorrow!
Members of military units, regulars and reserves, associations and veterans organisations are welcome to participate by laying a wreath or a flower during the service to pay homage.
