HMSAS Brakpan
Alec Sutton
July 2005
I have just read with much interest a reference I found on the Internet about the HMSAS Brakpan, T42, upon which I served in WWII for several months. I am not sure of the actual period but I believe it was in 1942 and, if memory serves me well, it was for the period enclosed by March to June.

I did hear later that the Brakpan was sunk by a mine off the coast of Greece where she went at the end of the war. Is it possible to confirm that?

Also, the first week we went to sea (we used to sweep nearby to Saldanah Bay)a ship was sunk off Cape Agulhas. We were rushed down there immediately and saw the flotsam but were interrupted in our work by a violent storm that kept us at anchor for quite a while. Could you possibly identify that ship?

I would appreciate any information you have,

Sincerely

Alec Sutton
