(additional info from Lawrence Close
The Mary B. Mitchell was built in Carrickfergus , County Antrim,
Northern Ireland in 1892. Of 210 tons gross, length 129 feet, she was
registered at Beaumaris in North Wales and owned by Lord Penrhyn. She
was taken up by the British Admiralty in May 1916 as a Q- ship and
saw several actions against German U-boats but did not appear to have
sunk any.
After WW1 she went through a succession of refits and owners until
in 1970 she was acquired by the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum. Such
an historic little vessel.
Also known as Q-9 her military career is described by E.Keble
Chatterton in his book "Q ships and their story" published by
Sidgwick & Jackson 1923.)
