John E.Nolan of Ireland in Jan 2008 wrote:
HMS BRITISH DOMINION was part of a nine-tanker Atlantic convoy, most of which departed from Trinidad for the Mediterranean on December 28, 1942.
Between January 3, 1943 (when HMS BRITISH VIGILANCE was torpedoed) and January 10, 1943 when the HMS BRITISH DOMINION was the last of seven of the nine-tanker Special Oil Convoy TM-1 ( Trinidad-Mediterranean-1) that were torpedoed and sunk by the U-Boat Gruppe Delfin. Shortly before midnight, on January 10, 1943, HMS BRITISH DOMINION was Acting Commodore Ship of the three remaining tankers of Convoy TM-1, her master, and acting commodore being Captain Miller. She was struck by three torpedoes from U-522, commanded by KapitanLt. Schneider, her cargo of aero-fuel exploded, and she was abandoned. 38 of her crew (including an uncle of mine from Cobh, County Cork, , (marine engineer John Quealy Sextion) died, and 16 were rescued by the Flower-class corvette HMS GODETIA, then commanded by Lt. Pierce.
The burning hulk of HMS BRITISH DOMINION was finally sunk by gunfire from U-620 (KptLt Stein) on January 11, 1943.
